We continue work on the Katmai program using the HDCAM and our Alaska based Cineflex. The bears are magical, and we are reminded again how nice it is to work with animals that are use to living and feeding in high food-density areas. The bears of Katmai are not so much use to humans as they are use to being around other large mammals – namely other bears. With rivers choked with salmon, the bears feed shoulder to shoulder with dozens of other bears, and they are habituated to the presence of large animals nearby – including humans. We are spending several days with the bears, and we are filming them with the F900 and the Cineflex. Here’s a clip of some of the ground footage.
